The MEC for Health, Gwen Ramokgopa, announced that 862 ambulances were added to the fleet of ambulances, bringing the total in the province to 1 268.

This is an increase of almost 67% of the fleet, which means that the province has worked with only about 400 ambulances until now.

However, there are questions about the availability of trained drivers and medical staff for the ambulances, and it is suspected that not everyone will be operational, and may even be used for work other than for medical emergencies.

Health experts are not optimistic that the ambulances will bring any relief, given the wretched condition in most state hospitals.
