The Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) made two significant arrests in Eldorado Park this week, apprehending suspects linked to attempted murder, murder, and possession of suspected stolen state property.
First Arrest: Possession of Suspected Stolen Police Equipment
On Tuesday afternoon, 13 May 2025, AGU members acted on intelligence regarding a wanted attempted murder suspect reportedly driving a silver Renault with a confirmed registration number. While patrolling the intersection of Main Road and Mahonie Street, officers spotted the vehicle and conducted a stop-and-search operation.
After identifying themselves and obtaining consent, the team searched both the driver and the vehicle. During the search, they discovered:
-
A police bulletproof vest
-
A police bulletproof bag
-
A blue cable tie (found in the front passenger seat)
The driver claimed the items belonged to his girlfriend and stated he did not know where she worked. He was arrested for possession of suspected stolen state property and taken to a local police station for detention.
Second Arrest: Suspect Linked to Murders and Attempted Murders
In a separate operation in the early hours of Wednesday, 14 May 2025, the AGU followed up on information regarding a suspect connected to recent murders and attempted murders. The team proceeded to a residence on Osberg Street in Eldorado Park, Extension 2, where they located the suspect.
After confirming his identity and matching the provided description, the suspect was arrested for murder and attempted murder. He was transported to a local police station and is expected to appear in court soon.
Commendation from Unit Commander
Brigadier Maphoto, Unit Commander of the AGU, praised the officers for their “determination and professionalism” during the operations.
Community Urged to Report Crime
Authorities have encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any criminal activities or tip-offs to the South African Police Service (SAPS), emphasizing that community cooperation is crucial in combating crime.
These arrests highlight the AGU’s ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and enhance safety in Gauteng communities.
