Parents of trainee pilots enrolled at the Superior Aviation Academy in Midrand are voicing their distress after flight lessons were abruptly halted two weeks ago, leaving students in limbo and families fearing for their children’s education and well-being.

The crisis has left dozens of students unable to continue their training, write exams, or access proper accommodation and food—despite many being funded by the North West Provincial Government.

Parents Speak Out: “Our Children’s Futures Are Jeopardized”

One distressed parent, who requested anonymity, revealed that her daughter and other students were called into a meeting last week where management promised to address the issues but provided no concrete solutions.

“The situation is tense. Nothing is happening,” the parent said. “My daughter said the academy has been closed. They were supposed to write exams, but they can’t even attend classes. We don’t know if they’ll have food, accommodation, or if tuition will be paid. Everything is at risk.”

Parents are now demanding intervention from authorities, questioning how government-funded programs could collapse without accountability.

Government Under Scrutiny Over Funding & Oversight

The North West Premier’s Office, which sponsored the students, has agreed to an interview to address concerns over the allocation of funds and the selection of Superior Pilot Services as the training provider.

A spokesperson previously stated that the government did not directly place students at the academy but confirmed they financed their training—raising questions about procurement processes and financial oversight.

“This is taxpayers’ money meant to give these students a career opportunity,” said reporter Rafil Subuko. “Who authorized these funds? Why was this academy chosen? There are serious accountability issues here.”

Students Left Stranded Amid Broken Promises

With no clear resolution in sight, students remain stranded, unable to progress in their studies. Some have sought help from other institutions but have been turned away.

Parents are now calling for urgent government intervention to salvage their children’s aviation careers.

“We need assistance,” the anonymous parent pleaded. “Our children’s futures are being destroyed. Someone must answer for this.”

As the North West Premier’s Office prepares to respond, the broader question remains: How did a government-funded initiative fail so severely, and who will take responsibility?
