A 43-year-old man is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday 22 June 2022, for fraud after he was served with court summons.
It is alleged that in 2017, a former Rand Water’s credit manager unlawfully levied penalty fees of approximately R12 million for water valves that were reportedly supplied late.
This levy was apparently for a breach of contract for the late delivery.
Internal investigations were conducted which established the grounds for a criminal case being opened for losses suffered.
The matter was reported to Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Johannesburg for investigation.
