Fourteen suspects nabbed in Johannesburg SAPS operation

On 19 February 2019, the men and women of Johannesburg West Cluster went out in full force to clamp down on criminals in the Diepsloot policing precinct.

An operation which was conducted throughout the night saw a total of fourteen suspects put behind bars for crimes ranging from possession of dangerous weapons, common assault, assault GBH, possession of unlicensed firearm and selling liquor without a license.

Stop and search, which was of the operation, yielded positive results when two males aged 35 and 40 were found in possession of unlicensed firearm. The members were conducting patrol duties when they spotted a suspicious vehicle parked on the side of the road.

The members acted swiftly and searched the vehicle and found a firearm with one live ammunition, which the two occupants could not produce a license to possess it and were subsequently arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In a separate incident, members were patrolling around the area when they saw a suspicious vehicle driving along the street. The members gave chase and stopped the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, they found a gas pistol which resembles a real firearm.

The three occupants all denied ownership of the airgun and were all arrested and charged with possession of gas pistol with intent to commit crime.

All suspects will appear in the Randburg magistrates’ Court soon.
