Police arrested four suspects between the age of 23 to 26 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Mayfair on 5 September 2019 at 01:00.
Police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties, when they saw a suspicious black Mercedes Benz with four occupants inside. They stopped and searched them. Police recovered a firearm hidden under the seat. Firearm has a serial number and came out positive that it was reported stolen at Evander (Mpumalanga) in November 2017.
The firearm will be sent to ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of serious and violent crimes.
Investigation is under way and suspects will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.
