Swift action by the Gauteng Traffic Wardens STT (West Rand) led to the arrest of four suspects following an armed robbery in Randfontein.
While patrolling the R28, officers were alerted by a member of the Randfontein Taxi Association about suspects involved in the robbery, driving a Toyota Quantum. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspects opened fire, prompting a high-speed chase through Kagiso.
With backup from the Gauteng Traffic Police Special Patrol Unit (Bike Unit) and SAPS Krugersdorp District Infrastructure Unit, one suspect was apprehended on foot carrying a black sling bag containing a 9mm PX Beretta pistol, ammunition, and a stolen cellphone.
The suspects’ vehicle eventually crashed, resulting in the arrest of three additional suspects and the recovery of two more firearms.
All suspects face charges of armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, malicious damage to property, and attempted murder.
