A coordinated law enforcement effort between the Provincial Organised Crime Tracing Team and Gauteng Pers Flexi led to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of three illegal firearms in Yeoville, Gauteng, on 28 May 2026.
Acting on intelligence reports of armed individuals operating in a vehicle around the Yeoville precinct, officers located and stopped the suspect vehicle. Three occupants were detained at the scene. A search of the vehicle uncovered two pistols and one AK-47 rifle, all unlicensed. The trio was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
As investigators continued to process the location, a fourth man approached the scene and asserted that one of the seized weapons was his property. He was promptly arrested and charged with negligent handling of a firearm.
The three suspects initially detained are set to appear in court on 01 June 2026 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The fourth suspect will appear separately on a charge of negligent handling of a firearm.
The successful operation highlights the continued collaboration between specialised police units in targeting illegal firearms and disrupting organised criminal activity across Gauteng province.
