The FF Plus in Emfuleni says the arrest of former mayor Simon Mofokeng this week regarding child pornography, is again proof that no one is above the law.

Mofokeng, former mayor of the Emfuleni municipality (Evaton, Sebokeng, Vaal River, Vanderbijlpark, Vereeniging), was arrested on 16 February 2018, and appeared in the Van der Bijlpark Regional Court on charges related to the distribution of pornographic photographs of a minor.

He was not asked to plead and the case was postponed until 20 March.

He was released on bail of R10 000.

“The FF Plus has always acted in the interests of women and children, and therefore considers this violation to be very serious,” said Christo Smith, FF Plus councilor in the Emfuleni Municipality.

“Child abuse and sexual offenses are the scourge of our society and it is a pity that our children are the victims of such acts.”
