Former police constable Neo Adgenton Molatedi (36), who was attached to the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) unit in Johannesburg, appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 11 June 2025, facing charges of fraud and corruption.
The case stems from an April 2024 report filed by the Chief Financial Officer of Pan African Mine with the Hawks’ SCCI. The matter was assigned to Molatedi for investigation. However, it is alleged that he abused his position by sending a fraudulent request on SAPS letterhead, unlawfully demanding R6,000 from the complainant for “accommodation in Klerksdorp” to finalize the investigation.
Upon discovering the alleged misconduct, the matter was escalated to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation (SCI) unit. An internal disciplinary process was initiated, leading to Molatedi’s dismissal from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in October 2024. Despite his dismissal, criminal investigations continued, culminating in the execution of an arrest warrant on 11 June 2025 after Molatedi voluntarily surrendered to authorities.
During his first court appearance, Molatedi was granted bail of R3,000. The case has been postponed to 23 July 2025 for further proceedings.
The Hawks have reaffirmed their commitment to rooting out corruption within law enforcement, emphasizing that no officer is above the law.
