A man and his accomplice who is under police guard in hospital will on 25 July 2019, appear before the Protea Magistrate Court, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen property and possession of unlicensed firearm.

This follows a shooting incident on Tuesday evening 23 July 2019, where members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad swiftly reacted to information of a vehicle that was hijacked in Bertrams and spotted on the Soweto Highway.

The members spotted a silver BMW that matched the description of the hijacked vehicle, in Diepkloof. As police approached the vehicle, a shootout ensued between the suspects and the police during which one suspect was shot and the other suspect arrested while the latter was stuck in the vehicle.

The injured suspect is under police guard in the hospital.

Gauteng police management commended the police officers for their quick response; and urged the community to continue reporting criminal activities by calling Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
