Between Monday 14, Wednesday 16 and Sunday 19 April 2025, at, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers, intercepted Five (5) undocumented foreign Nationals for illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act.
While conducting an illegal mining operations due to curb the growing trend of illegal mining throughout the City of Ekurhuleni. Officers tactically proceeded to a mine shafts, respectfully in the Germiston, Duduza and KwaThema areas.
During these operations, five illegal miners were arrested with multiple illegal mining equipment, such as Phendukas, Gas cylinders and more.
The suspects between the ages of eighteen (18) and forty-five(45) were arrested and taken to the Police Station, facing charges of illegal mining and undocumented foreign national in the boarders of the country. They are expected to appear at the Magistrate’s Court soon.
