Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Gauteng Highway Patrol arrested five suspects and rescued a hijacking victim following a pursuit and shooting incident in Midrand on Friday, 27 February 2026.
According to police reports, at approximately 18:50, officers conducting routine patrols in a marked vehicle were approached by members of the public. A female community member reported witnessing a man being forcibly pushed into a Kia motor vehicle and provided the direction of travel.
The members pursued the vehicle, leading to a high-speed chase before the suspects’ vehicle was stopped. Upon inspection, officers located five suspects and one victim inside. It was established that the victim’s delivery motorcycle had been hijacked prior to the incident. The victim was rescued and is receiving medical treatment.
All five suspects were placed under arrest. One suspect was transported to the hospital under police guard due to a pre-existing medical condition. Two firearms were recovered from the vehicle and will be subjected to ballistic testing.
