Quick response by EPR security and excellent communication between SAPS and security officers led to the arrest of 5 armed robbers, mere minutes after they committed the crime.

The suspects, armed with a firearm and 3 knifes robbed a general dealer in Lang Avenue, Elandsvlei agricultural holdings on Friday 21 July 2017. They took among other things cigarettes, cash and cellular telephones before they fled in a white vehicle.

Quickly responding to an alarm at the business, reaction officer Adriaan Fritz established that the vehicle was travelling in the direction of Randfontein CBD.

He immediately contacted SAPS members of the Randfontein Crime prevention unit and supplied them with a lookout regarding the vehicle.

SAPS members, Warrant officer Dix Dicks and Const Shoes Mosweu responded. In a joint effort, the vehicle was traced and the members were able to apprehend the five occupants.

In the vehicle they recovered all the robbed items. Inside the vehicle, stashed under the back seat, they also found the firearm used in the commission of the robbery. Three knives were also recovered in the vehicle.

The five suspects, aged between 21 and 30, will be charged with armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearm and dangerous weapons.

They are expected to appear in the Randfontein Magistrates court on Monday 24 July 2017.
