The FF Plus has requested the provincial Police Commissioner, Lt.-Gen. Elias Mawela, to launch an investigation into an incident of attempted armed robbery that took place on 15 June 2021, in Boksburg and in which a police officer is reportedly implicated.
According to the police, the incident, which only just came to light, took place at guarded premises in Boksburg on the East Rand. One of the perpetrators was reportedly a member of the police service.
According to available information, two men who arrived at the scene in a police vehicle overpowered two private security guards.
They apparently tried to take one security guard’s weapon from him and a shoot-out ensued. One security guard was wounded in the face, arm and stomach.
And one suspect was fatally wounded and died at the scene. The second suspect grabbed the weapons and fled the scene in the police vehicle.
The commanding officer who responded and went to the scene was apparently quite surprised to find that the deceased suspect was one of her colleagues.
The FF Plus finds this absolutely shocking and hopes that the Commissioner will have the matter swiftly and thoroughly investigated. It is unacceptable that police officers are now seemingly even using police vehicles to commit serious crimes like armed robbery.
