In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a 42-year-old man and his ten-year-old daughter were attacked on their smallholding north of Pretoria.

The girl’s mother told Maroela Media that the child spent a week with her father on his smallholding situated in the Haakdoonboom area when they were assaulted by two suspects between 01:00 and 02:00.

“My daughter and her father were sleeping in the lounge area, as it was cooler with the fan in that room. The two suspects overpowered them and tied their hands and feet behind their backs with cable ties, shoelaces, and Christmas tree lights,” she said.

The attackers assaulted the man and hit him with a spad while they jumped on his chest demanding a firearm.
Leaving the victims tied up the suspects fled with a television set and a cellphone.

The child managed to get over to her father who tried to untie her. Once untied she managed to get her father free and helped him to his motor vehicle. The man’s brother lives nearby, and they drove toward his house to get help.
The man was transferred to a hospital for medical treatment.

“He is still in the hospital with serious head injuries but is stable. Tests are being conducted to establish the extent of damage caused by the assault. The doctors are concerned about his one eye, but are waiting for the results before taking further action.”

The mother said her daughter is traumatized but unharmed. “The attackers hit her through the face with a cushion during the incident and told her to “shut up.” Her wrists are sore due to the cable ties used. She is currently receiving counseling.

Shortly after the incident, the Pretoria-North police were hunting for the attackers. So far nobody has been detained, and the search continues.
