Gauteng Police wish to confirm the facts in relation to initial reports on the arrest of a 46 year old man following the fatal shooting of a farm worker on Saturday 06 January 2018 near Matshelapad informal settlement in the Tarlton policing precinct, West Rand.

The 46 year old suspect, now confirmed as a security officer, appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate Court on Monday 08 January 2018 after he had handed himself over to Tarlton Police in connection with the shooting incident where a 43 year old farm worker was killed.

With this matter now before the Courts, Police are appealing to the community and particularly the media to allow the Police space to investigate thoroughly so that ultimately, justice is served.

Whatever preliminary information that had been communicated is now at the center of the investigation, meaning that the Police are not at liberty to comment further on any aspect of this investigation.

Police urge communities to refrain from taking the law into their hands as it is a crime and they can be arrested. Furthermore, social media users are also urged to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly by not posting messages that could fuel any sorts of tension and/or incite violence.
