Farm attack, owner retrieves his firearm opens fire on attackers, Kameeldrift West

A farm attack took place on Sunday evening 21 August 2022, at 21:30, on a small holding in Kameeldrift West, in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Three armed attackers, one with a firearm and two others with knives, confronted the owner, Vincent Mills (43), in his workshop.

The attackers attempted to stab Mills whilst assaulting him.

Mills’s firearm was on one of his workbenches.

Mills, who feared for his life and that of his pregnant wife and sons who were in the house, suddenly had a ‘fight of flight’ reaction and during the struggle grabbed his firearm and opened fire on the three.

Mill’s reaction caused the attackers to flee and most probably saved his life and that of his family.

All role players responded after the alarm was raised and a blood trail was followed. It is presumed that at least one of the attackers was wounded.

The blood trail led into the veld where responders found a knife and a balaclava but there were no arrests.

There is no other information available at this stage.
