Farm attack: FF Plus calls on rural communities to be more vigilant, join local safety structures

The FF Plus in Gauteng is calling on all rural communities to be even more vigilant and to join local safety and security structures after yet another farm attack took place on Monday evening 17 May 2021, just outside Fochville.

Mr Gerrie Brits and his wife, Susan, were ambushed and overpowered by three men on their farm in the Elandsfontein region. Brits was forced to open the safe after which he was hit in the head.

The suspects made off with a shotgun, two handguns, a laptop, cell phones and cash in the family’s Ford Ranger bakkie.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in the Kokosi settlement.

The FF Plus’s councillor in the Merafong Municipality (Carletonville, Fochville, Welverdiend, Blybank, Khutsong), Ben van der Berg, visited the farm on 18 May 2021, and wished Mr Brits a speedy recovery.

The police’s rural safety plan means nothing if it is not executed properly.

The FF Plus frequently engages with and implores the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, to do more to ensure the safety of people residing in rural areas.

The FF Plus will keep putting pressure on the authorities to properly implement the rural safety plan as well as to deploy enough manpower and equipment to police stations to ensure the safety and security of those who are vulnerable.

This farm attack should serve as another wake-up call to all South Africans to stand up and stand with the FF Plus in the upcoming local government elections to take a stand against the ANC that has turned its back on rural communities.
