Farm attack, farmer hospitalised, attackers roll robbed bakkie, Heidelberg

A farm attack took place on the night of 10 July 2022, during load shedding, on a farm along the R549 road in Heidelberg in the Gauteng province of South Africa. A farmer went outside to investigate why his dogs were barking and was overpowered by three attackers. He was violently assaulted and dragged back into the house.

The attackers were demanding firearms and money.

The family, including a disabled daughter, were assaulted and held captive while the attackers ransacked the home and demanded the safe keys.

An unknown number of firearms were robbed.

In the interim the alarm was raised. Local farmers and farm watch members responded and met the fleeing attackers at the gate to the farm.

The attackers opened fire on the farmers and sped off along the R549 road where they rolled the robbed bakkie. All three attackers were arrested.

The assaulted farmer was evacuated to hospital with a broken cheekbone and other injuries.

People are again reminded not to go outside their homes to investigate anything! But to rather call for assistance and wait for help.
