Farm attack, elderly woman severely assaulted, hospitalised, Carletonville

A farm attack took place in the late afternoon of Thursday 2 May 2019, on a farm just outside Carletonville, Gauteng province. An elderly woman (in her 70’s) and her husband (in his 80’s) live on the farm De Pan. The husband went to turn off the pump near the sheep kraal at about 17:15 when the woman was attacked in their home, severely assaulted and sustained terrible injuries.

The old man went out, switched the pump off and switched the alarm in the kraal on, totally oblivious of what was happening in his house. As he was walking back to the house, his wife managed to open the door and called to him saying she had been attacked. The woman was hit over the head with an iron object and sustained injuries to her skull, her arms, legs, fingers, face and eyes.”

Just one suspect had apparently entered the elderly couple’s home when the old man had walked out to the kraal and assaulted the vulnerable woman, demanding money in Afrikaans. He managed to cause terrible physical harm to his victim and flee with a cell phone, cash and a purse before her husband returned, which was approximately 10 minutes later.

The old man put his wife in his car, rushed to their son’s home further down on the farm and they immediately rushed her to hospital where she received treatment for her injuries.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect who has not yet been arrested, is urged to call the SAPS Detective Sergeant Wynand Kruger at 065 968 9630.
