A farm attack took place on Wednesday 26 May 2021, in Hennops Valei, in the Gauteng province of South Africa. Mr van Zyl (76) and his wife (74) had just sat down at the table to eat when three armed attackers broke down the door and stormed into the home.
The attackers opened fire on the couple, Mr.van Zyl was shot in the leg causing extensive damage. Mr. van Zyl returned fire on the attackers from where he lay on the floor.
One attacker was shot dead and by a blood trail left by the fleeing attackers indicates that that at least one other was wounded.
Mr. van Zyl was admitted to hospital for surgery to his badly damaged leg.
Mrs, van Zyl was not injured during the attack but has been left extremely traumatised.
All role players responded but there have been no arrests.
