In the early hours of Wednesday 14 March 2018, a family of six were attacked and robbed on their smallholding outside Centurion, an area where there is already heightened tension with regard illegal land invasions.

The attack happened at about 01:00 in the Knoppieslaagte area between Olievenhoutbosch and Erasmia. Ian Cameron from Afriforum said ” Five armed men gained entry to the house via a glass sliding door that they broke open. A man and a woman in their sixties along with their two children in their twenties and two primary school children, a boy and girl, live in the house on the smallholding”

The suspects overpowered the family in separate rooms and tied them up and then ransacked the home.They were in the house for about an hour and a half. According to Cameron the family was continually traumatised during this time.” the young woman was also sexually assaulted in front of her five year old son during the attack and only managed to free herself at about 02:20 and summon assistance from Afriforum neighborhood watch. This is the second attack on them in seven months.”

“it is unclear at this stage weather the attack is related to the land invasions in the area and that the police are investigating” he said.
