Yesterday afternoon Emer-G-Med’s RAPS/K9 Law Enforcement team received reports from Edenvale SAPS of a shooting in progress at a home in the area.

The TEMS unit, comprised of specialist dog handlers who are also medics registered with the HPCSA, immediately responded to the scene.

On arrival they found that the family pet, a brown Doberman, had been shot twice during the attempted robbery. TEMS/K9 Medic, Meggan Beeka, immediately secured the dog and loaded him into her response vehicle.

She attended to the wounded animal while a Edenvale SAPS member drove her car – rushing them to Terrace Road Vetinary Clinic in Eastleigh. On arrival they were met by an emergency team who immediately set into action, working to stabilising the critically injured animal.

It has now been reported that the dog is in a stable condition.

The South African Police Services have launched a full investigation.
