False cases: 2 Arrested in separate incidents for perjury

Police in Gauteng view the making of false statements in a serious light and have recently arrested a 43-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man for separate incidents of perjury.

A 43-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday, 4 November 2021 after investigation revealed that the hijacking case she had reported at SAPS Boksburg North was false..

In another incident, SAPS Hekpoort arrested a 22-year-old man on Monday, 8 November 2021 after he opened a false case of theft.

Both the arrested persons are facing a charge of Perjury and expected to appear in the respective Magistrate’s Courts.

Opening a false case diverts much needed resources away from the investigation of serious cases and wastes the police’s time. Therefore the SAPS warns people to refrain from opening false cases.
