Last weekend, 28 November 2018, we received information that a suspect contacted a Drift Reaction cc client and offered to sell him a Pangolin. The client contacted our CEO, Jarques, who immediately set the wheel in motion for a sting operation, Jarques knows just how endangered Pangolins are.

The suspect said he would be there at a specific time. Our Criminal Intervention Squad was ready for action. Jarques also liaised with the police as well as a representative from an organization involved in the rescuing of endangered species.

The representative said they were busy with another operation in Florida to arrest smugglers of endangered species but the squad must go ahead with the sting operation. She said they must keep the Pangolin calm as they are extremely sensitive little mammals who can easily go into shock!

The team waited for about three hours but the suspect never pitched. Jarques later called her to tell her about the no show suspect when she said they had a huge success in Florida and arrested a man in possession of a Pangolin weighing more than eight kilograms!

She mentioned the suspect’s name and low and behold, it was the same suspect our team was waiting for! The Pangolin was immediately transported to “ICU” and checked out, they are extremely nervous and sensitive to touch.

We were ecstatic to hear the suspect was arrested and the Pangolin was in safe hands. They are extremely difficult to rehabilitate and we hope he/she makes it! This is just a heartbreaking story but at least had a good outcome. Not all Pangolins are as lucky!
