GAUTENG — An investigation into Emfuleni municipal tender fraud has resulted in the arrest of a 42-year-old former Fleet Manager of the Emfuleni Local Municipality. The suspect is now facing serious charges of fraud and corruption following allegations of irregular procurement practices and missing assets within the local government’s vehicle fleet.
According to a spokesperson for the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team (PKTT), the arrest is directly linked to the suspicious awarding and execution of a municipal vehicle fleet tender. The municipality allegedly paid a service provider approximately R16 million for the delivery of 18 vehicles, a fleet that included UD trucks and bakkies. However, investigators uncovered a massive shortfall in the delivery: only seven of the contracted vehicles were actually handed over to the municipality, despite the full R16 million payment having been processed to the service provider.
The PKTT moved to apprehend the former manager as part of its broader mandate to combat corruption and related crimes in the province. The 42-year-old suspect is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 July 2026, at 09:00. During this appearance, he will formally face the charges of fraud and corruption related to the missing municipal assets.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that the probe into this R16 million discrepancy is far from over. The investigation remains actively ongoing, and authorities have indicated that further arrests are not ruled out as detectives continue to untangle the network surrounding the alleged corrupt contract.
