A four-year-old girl has reportedly died after being brutally assaulted by her father in Eldorado Park Extension 1, south of Johannesburg. The child, who was allegedly beaten for hours, was initially admitted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto but later succumbed to her injuries.

Community Outrage as Witness Recounts Horrific Details

According to a neighbor who witnessed the incident, the attack began in the morning when the father allegedly became enraged because the child refused to eat. The witness, who asked to remain anonymous for safety reasons, described hearing violent blows and screams from inside the locked home.

“It was so brutal… We tried to intervene, but the door was locked. He kept assaulting her until the afternoon when police arrived,” the witness said.

The neighbor also revealed that while the family had moments of normalcy, they believed substance abuse may have triggered the father’s violent outburst.

Police Under Scrutiny for Delayed Response

Community members expressed frustration with the South African Police Service (SAPS), claiming officers failed to properly investigate when first alerted.

“SAPS failed us. Yesterday, they just took the child to the hospital without taking statements. Today, we said enough—this could have been any of our children,” a resident said.

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo is expected to arrive at the scene to provide further details. Meanwhile, Eldorado Park ward councillor Juwairiya Kaldene has called for prayers for the grieving family.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have yet to confirm the exact circumstances of the child’s death or whether the father has been arrested. Forensic teams are currently processing the scene.

This is a developing story, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
