A 71-year-old lady was shot in the leg and foot during a farm attack on 27 January 2017. The farm is situated in Hills and Dales, Centurion.
The woman lives alone and heard noises inside the house, upon investigating, she saw a suspect in the foyer near the kitchen and another suspect climbing through the ceiling. Apparently, the suspects gained access to the house through the tiled roof.
The woman phoned for help but the suspects started shooting at her and it is not clear if she shot back at this stage.
Dave Muller of the neighborhood watch noticed that there were several missed calls from the woman just after midnight, but due to the heavy rain, some of the calls did not come through. He phoned back and all he heard was the woman shouting, “They are shooting at me, come, and help!”
Muller immediately called for assistance and due to the flooding of the Jukskei River, help was not readily available. However, one of the closer neighbors shone a bright light onto the victim’s house and the suspects realized that help was on the way.
As soon as reinforcements arrived, the suspects fled the scene.
The victim’s daughter was notified and the elderly woman was taken to the hospital and is in a stable condition.
Due to the heavy rains, all traces of the suspects was wiped out and the search continues.
The police are investigating the incident.
