An elderly resident has been severely assaulted during an armed house robbery, in Baansfyer Street, Ruimsig.
At about 14:50 we received burglar alarm signals from a house in Baansyfer Street. First reports were that suspects had broken into the house and were still inside.
The Iron Fist Squad as well as Tactical Units responded. On arrival they found the elderly owner as well as his two gardeners all overpowered by four armed suspects. They tied them up and wanted firearms and cash.
The suspects then started beating the owner with a crowbar. He was struck on his head, hit over his arms and hands as well as his knees. He sustained serious injuries. ER 24 was dispatched and he was taken to hospital.
The Iron Fist Squad reported that the scene was absolutely gruesome with blood spattered everywhere. The suspects fled with a firearm and his wallet. It is unknown if they had a vehicle waiting for them.
