GAUTENG — A major Ekurhuleni firearms arrest operation on the morning of July 23, 2026, has resulted in the confiscation of nine unlicensed weapons and the recovery of four stolen vehicles. The successful bust was carried out by the Ekurhuleni Task Team, who were acting on intelligence linked to a recent business robbery in Kempton Park.

Following the tip-off, the specialized unit tracked the suspects to Ebony Park. There, officers apprehended a 40-year-old male suspect. A subsequent search of the premises uncovered a substantial cache of illegal weaponry and stolen property.

The confiscated inventory is extensive. Police recovered five AK-47 rifles, two 9mm pistols, and two revolvers. Alongside the firearms, officers seized assorted rounds of ammunition, multiple magazines, and several vehicle registration plates. Furthermore, the search led to the discovery of four stolen vehicles: a Mercedes Benz, a BMW, and two VW Polos.

Ekurhuleni District Commissioner Major General Anna Sithole publicly commended the task team for their diligence and rapid response. Major General Sithole applauded the team for their vigilance and sterling work in recovering the firearms and the stolen vehicles, highlighting the unit’s critical role in disrupting criminal networks and keeping the community safe.

The seized weapons are now slated for comprehensive forensic analysis. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they are linked to other unsolved crimes committed across the country, potentially opening up further investigations and additional arrests.
