GAUTENG – Eight suspects have been arrested in Tshwane in connection with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder following a vigilantism-related shooting incident in Atteridgeville.
The arrests stem from an incident at the Hamba Juba Informal Settlement. On Thursday, 16 July 2026, the Gauteng DPC Tracking Team was activated to trace and locate the individuals allegedly involved in the violence. Acting swiftly on actionable intelligence, the team launched a targeted, intelligence-driven tracing operation to establish the suspects’ whereabouts, which resulted in their successful apprehension.
Following the operation, all eight suspects were detained at the Atteridgeville police station. They will be formally charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder and are expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court soon.
Major General Samuel Thine, District Commissioner of Tshwane, strongly condemned acts of vigilantism in the wake of the arrests. He reiterated that members of the public must never take the law into their own hands, emphasizing that justice must be pursued through lawful, official channels.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing as authorities work to finalize the case docket for prosecution.
