Temba police together with members of Gauteng Gambling Board arrested eight spaza shop owners around Temba area after gambling machines were recovered at their spaza shops.

During the operation this morning, 6 November 2018, police searched spaza shops around Temba, Chris Hani and Majaneng areas and were found using the gambling machines illegally. There were no licences that permit them to use the machines and they were subsequently arrested.

The gambling machines were mostly operated by minors. Ten machines were seized and the spaza shop owners were issued with fines and released.

They were charged with illegal operating of gambling machines in the shop. The operation will continue throughout the festive season and those who continue with these illegal activities are warned that police will act on offenders.
