A robbery gang targeting veterinarian practices and other small business enterprises – linked to the murder of veterinarian Dr Freddie Malan of Pretoria – operating in Johannesburg, Boksburg, Roodepoort and surrounds has been spotted again yesterday whilst they were watching a veterinarian practice on the East Rand. A vehicle with 3 men and a woman – without number plates – was seen driving around the animal clinic, taking photos.
The modus operandi of the group is that a well dressed female comes into the shop and put the store owner or veterinarian at ease before she lets the men in to do the robbery. The group has been linked to around 22 incidents. Dr Malan was shot dead in January in his practice by this group. Last Wednesday the numbers of the robbery gang swelled to 16 robbers when they robbed a warehouse in Boksburg and took boxes of Ferrero Rocher chocolate.
CCTV footage of the incident shows how the woman casually talks with warehouse staff before she and one of her accomplices takes out firearms to start the robbery. The gang removed the boxes of chocolate with 2 of their own trucks. The footage of the woman was circulated and previous victims of the gang recognised the woman.
Private investigator Mike Bolhuis forensic expert compared the footage of the woman to photos and facial reconstruction images of the woman involved in the murder of Dr Malan and other robberies and came to the conclusion it is the same woman. The woman is in her early 30’s. People with information can phone Bolhuis at 0824476116 or his investigators at 0828203680 or 0820767574.
