Police in Douglasdale arrested a 25-year-old man for the possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and suspected stolen goods on 30 January 2017.

The suspect was arrested after police followed up on information related to a business robbery that took place on 11 October 2016 at Cosmo Mall.

Members received information on the whereabouts of the suspects. Police spotted and stopped the suspects’ vehicle at the corner of Riverbend and Epson Avenue in Douglasdale. One of the two suspects emerged from the vehicle and and started shooting at members as he fled. Members managed to corner the other suspect inside the vehicle. He was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police proceeded to his residence at Kya Sands informal settlement, where they also recovered another unlicensed firearm, 2 magazines, live rounds of ammunition and 7 cellphones.

No one was injured during the shooting. The second suspect is still at large. The arrested suspect is expected to appear in the Randburg Magistrate Court in due course.
