CENTURION, Gauteng — The Democratic Alliance (DA) is intensifying its campaign for an outright majority in the Tshwane Metro, arguing that a decisive electoral mandate is essential to end ongoing “coalition chaos” and restore reliable municipal service delivery. Speaking at the official launch of the party’s ‘Working For All Tour’ in Centurion, DA Federal Leader Geordin Hill-Lewis, alongside Federal Chairperson Solly Msimanga and Tshwane mayoral candidate Cilliers Brink, urged residents to vote directly for stable governance ahead of the November polls.
Addressing supporters, Hill-Lewis outlined the DA’s core priorities for Tshwane, directing sharp criticism at the current multi-party coalition. He argued that the existing political arrangement has fostered instability at the direct expense of essential service delivery.
“Every time there’s a difficult decision, someone’s got to keep all those 11 pieces of the puzzle together,” Hill-Lewis stated, warning that such a fragmented arrangement is “not a recipe for good government. It is a recipe for permanent coalition chaos.” He pointed to the current coalition visibly pulling itself apart in the public eye, describing the ongoing political friction as “a mess.”
The DA leadership also highlighted the city’s persistent struggle with water shortages and aging infrastructure. Hill-Lewis specifically criticized Tshwane’s reliance on water tankers as an inadequate stopgap measure, emphasizing that residents deserve a permanent, well-managed solution rather than temporary fixes.
In his remarks, Hill-Lewis issued a direct call to action for the electorate, advising voters against casting ballots for smaller factions with the hope of influencing post-election coalition negotiations. “Do not cast a vote for a small party and hope that after the election your vote ends up supporting the government that you like,” he advised. “You don’t have to do that. You can vote directly for the government you want.”
Rallying the crowd, the DA leadership concluded with a unified message for the upcoming election, urging citizens to empower the party to govern independently. “Give Cilliers Brink and give the DA the majority we need to get this city working for all,” Hill-Lewis declared. “Vote DA to end the coalition of chaos in Tshwane.”
