Criminals disguised as police officers: Over 50 suspects arrested in Gauteng since March 21

The FF Plus in Gauteng has taken note of the arrests of more than 50 suspects since March, who among other things disguised themselves as police officers and who were in possession of unlicensed firearms and unlicensed firearms .

Many of these suspects are reportedly also implicated in car jackings.

As part of their operation, the police’s intelligence crime unit in Johannesburg North apprehended a suspected blue-light robber on Wednesday 17 November 2021, in Ivory Park.

Uniforms of the police and the Tshwane’s metro police, three AK47-magazines, two R1-magazines, a pistol and more than 100 rounds of ammunition were found in the suspect’s possession.

The FF Plus has already made several requests to the Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lt.-Gen. Elias Mawela, this year to urgently address the shortcomings in police officers’ training in firearms and combat.

Furthermore, it must be ensured that police stations have enough officers, firearms, ammunition and vehicles to effectively perform their duties.

The public is losing their faith in the police force due to the sharp increases in crime figures. It is Lt.-Gen. Mawela’s duty to restore their faith in the force, especially in light of the approaching festive season.

The FF Plus will not let up the pressure on Lt.-Gen. Mawela; he must do everything in his power to ensure that the people of Gauteng can live and work in a safe environment.
