21 February 2019, was a tough day for schooling on the East Rand. First the shooting and armed robbery at Edenvale High and then a few minutes later Norkem Park high school in Kempton Park became the second school to be hit by an armed robbery.

When you rob a school during class that is situated next to a police station you either are so stupid, so high or have so little regard for our police force. Edenvale High is 250m from the Edenvale Police Station. Last week, armed robbers also robbed Glendower High on the other side of the police station.

A huge cross fire fight ensued between the gang of robbers and the police. All this happened during school hours with a school full of children. Police have confirmed that two suspects have been shot dead and 3 others have been arrested in a robbery at the school in Edenvale.

During the robbery at Norkem Park High, R25 000 was taken but there are no confirmed arrests yet.

It is a very sad day indeed when our schools are becoming the next target for armed robberies. In a country that is already collapsing under some of the highest crime rates in the world, it is extremely alarming that our schools are now suffering under the same fate.

Whilst we are being subjected to this criminal infested government, our children will never be safe. While we mollycoddle criminals and we as citizens are increasingly being hogtied by draconic and unjust laws that prevent us to fight back, our children are increasingly at risk. This year alone, we witnessed many tragedies and political savagery at our schools.

But this latest spate of armed robberies makes us shudder. We have to ask ourselves the question: how really safe are our children at our schools? How many children might die?

For the safety of our children, it is time that we take back our control and vote for our own independence. It is time we vote for self determination where we can effectively and decisively protect our children on our own terms.
