Child rape: Man found guilty on three of nine counts

The Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 17 July 2019 ordered three life sentences to run concurrently and the name of the convicted child rapist to be entered into the National Register of Sexual Offenders.

Mavhusha Livhuwani Vincent aged 41, was found guilty of three of nine counts of rape following his reign of terror in 2016 during which he targeted children between the ages of nine and twelve.

Nine cases of child rapes were reported to police in Loate, Tshwane North, and the investigation was duly prioritised by the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) investigating unit.

The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has welcomed the multiple long term sentences and commended the Temba FCS for removing yet another serial rapist from the streets, thus ensuring the safety of children and other vulnerable persons.

“It is such quality investigations that pave the way for successful convictions and ultimately restore public confidence as police urge victims of gender based violence to break the trend of reporting and then withdrawing cases before court proceedings commence,” said the Provincial Commissioner. “Let the law take its full course and perpetrators pay for their crimes.”
