A major investigation is underway following a brutal attack on a three-year-old girl in Diepsloot on Sunday, 07 September 2025. The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit has confirmed it has mobilised all necessary resources, including K9, drone, and crime intelligence teams, to trace a known male suspect alleged to have raped and attempted to murder the child.
According to police reports, the incident occurred while the child was under the care of her grandmother. The child’s mother was at work at the time. A man known to the community is alleged to have taken the three-year-old and two other children under the pretence of buying them sweets.
The two other children returned without the toddler, prompting neighbours to alert the grandmother that the three-year-old was missing. A community search was launched immediately.
The young victim was subsequently discovered on top of a shack, lying in a pool of blood. She was rushed to a nearby medical facility for urgent treatment. Her current condition has not been disclosed.
Police were called to the scene, but upon their arrival, they found that the shack where the child was located had already been destroyed by members of the community.
The FCS detectives followed the case to the hospital and have officially registered charges of rape and attempted murder. The investigation is now focused on apprehending the suspect.
