The police were busy with patrols in the Mamelodi area when they suddenly spotted a white Nissan double cab that was been driven recklessly. They signalled for the driver to stop but he refused.

He allegedly sped off and the police gave chase. The chase was finally brought to an end after the police cornered the suspect near Denneboom train station.

The suspect’s vehicle was searched in his presence and during the search the police found a pistol with serial numbers filed off. The police also found a ladies’ hand bag in the car. Inside the handbag the police found a police issued firearm.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has an outstanding case of unlawful possession of a firearm in Limpopo. The vehicle was circulated and it was found to belong to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit of one of the stations in Limpopo province.

The police are also investigating the circumstances that led to the vehicle being found in the suspect’s possession.

The suspect was arrested and detained for unlawful possession of firearms. Both firearms will be sent to the forensic laboratory to determine if they were not used in a commission of a crime in the province or elsewhere. More charges are likely to be added as the investigation progresses.

Meanwhile the suspect will appear in the Mamelodi court soon.
