Chaos erupted at the Unisa campus in Sunnyside, Pretoria, when students climbed across gates and entered the premises.
The authorities allowed only 20 students entry at a time to prevent disorder.
Meanwhile, workers at the campus quit following a salary dispute.
Observers say it’s not a good start for 2018 academic year.
The campus is closed until today Tuesday and staff were sent home because they feared for their safety.
