Police are appealing to members of the public especially those around the area of Soweto to be on the lookout for a white single cab Ford Ranger and a silver BMW following a cash-in-transit heist on the R28 Main Reef road in Mohlakeng. Both vehicles were used as getaway vehicles by suspects who fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money.

At about 09:00 on the morning of 6 January 2020, members attached to the Bekkersdal police station came across the CIT robbery which was already in progress. The members were ferrying awaiting trial prisoners when they were shot at by a group of men sitting behind a white Ford ranger.

Both members and the awaiting trial prisoners were not injured during the ordeal. At the scene, police found that the G4S cash van had already been bombed and next to the cash van, a body of a man who for now preliminary investigations suggest that he was a suspect and that his head may have been blown off during one of the explosions was also discovered.

A burnout 3 series BMW was also found at the scene and it has been established that it was stolen in Kagiso in December.
