Cable thief shot at the Rooival power station

Tshwane Metro Police have arrested a 23-year-old suspect for cable theft following a shoot-out at the Rooival power station near Pretoria.

TMPD spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba, said officers were on duty at the Rooival power station on Wednesday when they spotted a male suspect busy stealing cables. When they approached him, the suspect allegedly started shooting at the officers, at which point the officers returned fire and the suspect was shot and injured.

“TMPD officers were not injured during the shoot-out. The suspect was taken to hospital and he is under police guard,” said Mahamba.

Mahamba said a firearm, spades, knives and other digging materials were found on the scene, while a 15-meter stretch of cable had been removed.
