Metrorail blames the theft of cables for the accident in which two passenger trains collided near Elandsfontein in Johannesburg.

The two trains collided early on Thursday morning, and one passenger was killed with 120 injured during the accident.

Train traffic was severely disrupted between Pretoria and Johannesburg and buses had to transport passengers between Kaalfontein and Germiston.
