The South African Police Service will at no stage stop but to continue fighting the battle to ensure the removal of illegal firearms in the hands of criminals who are terrorising local communities. This follows the arrest of a 22 year old man in Mooiplaas informal settlement on Wednesday, 18 September 2019

An unknown number of suspects allegedly broke into one of the industrial firms in Sunderland Ridge in which nine firearms were taken from the safe, and a case of Business burglary was registered at Erasmia SAPS for further police investigation.

However, an intelligence driven operation by members attached to Erasmia SAPS Detectives (tracing team) led to the arrest of one suspect and recovery of three Rifles including 18 rounds of ammunition.

The following Rifles were seized:

A 303 win ruger, a Springfield (Steyers) and a Marlin Rifle

At this stage more arrests cannot be ruled out. The suspect will also be profiled to establish if he is not involved in any criminal activities.

Erasmia SAPS station Commander Lieutenant Colonel Thandi Mokgoetsi “I welcome the arrest and encourage members to continue squeezing air out of the criminals to ensure that our people are and feel safe at all times”

I also want to thank the residents for working closely with the local police and providing information which resulted in the arrest” said Mokgoetsi

The suspect will appear before Atteridgeville magistrate court on Friday, 20 September 2019, for possession of unlicensed firearm.
