On 12 September 2018 at about 21:30, SAPS members attached to Flying Squad arrested a man following a high speed chase in Marlboro area. It is alleged that the police were on patrol in the area when they received information about a vehicle in the nearby vicinity. The members then began searching the area upon which they spotted the vehicle fitting the description given.

Upon seeing the marked police vehicle, the occupants in the vehicle allegedly sped off in an attempt to evade arrest. The police signalled them to stop however they continued driving. Their action prompted the police to give chase until the suspects lost control of the vehicle where it crashed into a wall.

It is further alleged that the suspects alighted from their vehicle started shooting at the police who returned fire. One suspect was reportedly injured in the process and was rushed to the Hospital under police guard.

Upon further investigation it was established that the vehicle has been taken during a house robbery in Bryanston area. Inside the vehicle, Police found televisions and a camera believed to have been robbed from the home owner during the house robbery.

The suspects will appear in court soon. The suspects will be profiled in order to establish if they can be linked to any other similar crimes in the Sandton area.

The SAPS management commended the swift response by the Flying Squad members. Police in collaboration with various law enforcement agencies will continue in their crime fighting efforts through Operation ‘Buya Mthetho’ aiming to create safer communities.
