In the midnight hours, a pedestrian bridge collapsed near Johannesburg on the N3 highway.
The bridge is between the Geldenhuys interchange and the Van Buuren Road exit.
Although no-one was on the bridge, several injured were taken to hospital after vehicles crashed into the bridge.
The N3 in both directions is closed for traffic and motorists have to use alternative routes.
The cause of the collapse is still unknown, but residents in the area claim that they felt an earthquake. Reports were received from people who felt the shake from Bedfordview to Edenvale and across Alberton.
