Black on black violence broke out in Mamelodi between residents of the more established part of Mamelodi and inhabitants of a nearby squatter camp.
The two neighborhoods ended up in a war situation, as the squatter camp was accused of stealing water and electricity, with the result being that the residents of the established part of Mamelodi, had to pay more for utilities.
Battles between police and protestors were still random by Thursday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the protesters have “surrendered” and are now trying to reach a reconciliation agreement with the other area.
