On 3 September 2018, at around 10:30 Sector police members with the help of members of security companies and community members responded to an armed robbery and managed to arrest two suspects.

The robbery was at Birch Gate Shopping Center at the corner Kwartel Street and P91 (Modderfontein road).

It is alleged that a female pensioner aged 90 and her son’s casual worker at the pharmacy were robbed at gunpoint at the parking lot of the Center.

Is further alleged that one of the suspects was armed with a 9mm pistol. The chasing of suspects on foot resulted to both suspects being arrested and found in possession of an unlicensed firearm 9mm vector pistol, with number filed off, one magazine with five live ammunitions.

The robbed items and hand bag containing personal items were recovered and handed back to her all in order.

The arrested suspects aged 24 and 36 will appear at Kempton Magistrates’ Court soon facing charges of armed robbery, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
